POSSE 'BIG 25' RULES GOVERN ALL SHOWS

IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF EVERY MEMBER TO KNOW AND UNDERSTAND THE SHOW RULES AND CHECK POINTS. 

YOU MAY ONLY APPROACH ANNOUNCER DURING DRAGS OR RING CHANGEOVER. NO RIDER OR REPRESENTATIVE ALLOWED IN ANNOUNCER’S BOOTH. VIOLATION OF THIS RULE WILL RESULT IN LOSS OF POINTS OR FORFEITURE OF JACKPOT MONIES FOR THE NIGHT. DISPUTES TO BE HANDLED AFTER SHOW.

ALL RULES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE AT THE DISCRETION OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND THEIR SHOW COMMITTEE MEMBERS

1. For 2023-2024 Barrel Show Series, riders age to be determined as of September 1, 2023 and provide birth certificate or drivers license as proof of age. Late entries for Game Show will be accepted in the Announcers Booth between events. Payment due at time of entry. The Barrel Committee* reserves the right to decline any membership, entry fee and/or retain any entry fees.

2. Points are Rider Responsibility. lt is the responsibility of the rider to check for errors in point standings, points available on web site. All disputes must be in the form of an e-mail. September- December  point disputes will end two weeks following the December show. February-June point disputes will end two weeks following the last show. Disputes must be in writing by email, not during shows or posted on Facebook. A rider may ride more than one horse for points but only 1 horse/ 1 rider per night. A second horse may be ridden for EXHIBITION ONLY at the end of each class. Rider must designate which horse will accrue points for the Point Show at time of sign up. To qualify for year-end awards you must ride the horse that was ridden in the most shows throughout the year at the final show unless (1) a vet is note provided noting horse is unable to compete and it is approved by Show Management OR (2) a bill of sale is provided showing proof of horse being sold. Riders must ride in final show to receive year-end award. Horses or ponies led through pattern will receive ribbon and/or trophy for day of show. 1 horse/2 riders, if both riders from same family, only one for Year-end points.

3. If less than 32 riders at a show classes must have 4 riders to qualify for daily award of trophy and ribbon. If class does not meet this requirement, daily awards will consist of ribbons only. Severe weather, poor arena conditions or lack of ridership may result in Show being canceled at the discretion of the Board, Barrel Committee* and members. If all divisions finish three (3) events, it will be considered a complete show with no monies returned. If all divisions finish two (2) events, a make-up show rescheduled will be at the discretion of the Board, Barrel Committee* and members. Make-up date would be decided at next Board Meeting or Barrel Committee* meeting

4. Proper show attire: Helmets are mandatory for all riders under 16 years of age both in the ring and while mounted outside of ring. Shirts without sleeves must have collars. Collarless shirts must have sleeves. (No muscle cuts, raglan, or or cap sleeves ) NO MIDRIFFS OR HALTER-TOPS. NO TANK TOPS. Shirts must be buttoned and be long enough to be tucked into pants. Full length pants, boots or approved footwear must be worn. Questionable clothing is a cause for immediate disqualification or NO TIME, at the discretion of the Barrel Committee* IF YOU QUESTION IF APPAREL IS APPROPRIATE – ASK before riding.

5. If a horse is unable to continue due to injury or illness, the rider will be charged $7.00 for each event completed. If having ridden 3 events before injury or illness, no monies will be refunded, as 3 events are considered a complete show.

6. The Barrel Committee* may disqualify any horse/rider for cruelty or safety issues. All monies will be forfeited. Owners and Riders must ALWAYS maintain their animals in a manner that is safe to spectators and other exhibitors.

7. Riders must be ready to enter ring when announced. Riders have the choice to start their ride in the arena or from the alleyway.

8. Riders will have a 60 second gate call to get their horse in the arena. The gate call is from the time riders’ name is announced to the time they go through the gate If a rider cannot get through the gate in the 60 second time limit, rider will receive a NO TIME and next rider will be called. NO EXCEPTIONS.

9. Re-rides will be allowed due to malfunction of the timer or other PBP equipment. No re-rides for missed patterns or broken tack.

10. No rider shall be tied, buckled or fastened in the saddle by any manner or means except by Velcro. Rubber bands may be attached to the bottom of boots and stirrups area. Stirrups must be proper length for rider.

11. NO double-riding.

12. No dismounting of horses in any fashion once you’ve crossed the timer and still in arena. Unless event specifically calls for a dismount, you will be disqualified.

13. A 5 second penalty per barrel or pole knocked over is added to the rider’s time. Hairpin barrel knocked over or horse out of bounds result in NO TIME. Any deviation of the pattern or no forward motion results in NO TIME. If Barrel Committee determines rider intentionally knocks over apparatus, points will be lost for the night. Once a pattern is set and division started, pattern cannot be altered. Only after a knock down can a barrel or pole be realigned.

14. Year End Awards presented to top 6 riders in all divisions. In the event of a tie for Jackpot or Gameshow, a run-off wiII be held at the end of the Jackpot or the end of the night of the last show. OR If both riders agree, a coin flip can decide the winner of the tie. If a rider leaves the event prior to the run off, the rider forfeits the prize and will get the next placing down. Tie-breaker Game show event will be drawn at random from a hat by the Barrel Director or Committee for the run-off event. The results of that run-off will determine the winner. To be eligible for Year End awards a rider must have ridden in 6 of 8 shows and in 3 classes within their eligible division per show.

All game show riders must pay a $50.00 awards fee or work 6 volunteer hours at the show to be eligible for year-end awards. Awards fees will be due in April. Rider or parent must check in and sign in and out upon completion of volunteering at each show. A parent or sibling may volunteer on behalf of the rider.

15. 4-D JACKPOT SERIES RULES: All Riders must be PBP Members in good standing to earn points. Membership Day Pass ($10) available. Cloverleaf format will always be 4-D, Payouts according to NBHA sample – 70/30 Late entries will be taken until first rider leaves gate, IF POSSIBLE. All riders 16 & U must wear helmet at all times when mounted. Show attire as stated in Rule# 4. Points will be awarded as follows 1st place 5 points, 2nd place 4 points, 3rd place 3 points, 4th place 2 points, 5th place 1 point. 1st place will receive 5 points regardless of how many place in the division. A horse may only be run once per Jackpot. In the event of a tie for monthly event, money will be split and both get points. Year End awards will be awarded based on the points given for each show for each rider/horse combination. In the event of a tie at Year End a run-off will be held after Jackpot or a date agreed upon by competitors (some Riders may be riding Game Show and cause 6 rides). A coin toss will be used to determine which rider will run first in the run off. Riders may ride as many horses as they would like, however, only the highest pacing horse in each Division will receive points. The competitors may also choose to do a coin toss in place of the run off. A rider will receive a No-time for knocking over a barrel, or hitting the timer line before completing the pattern. In the event of a timer failure to start or stop, the rider will be offered a re-ride. Re-rides will not be given in the event of a fall by horse or rider or tack malfunction. 

16. Everyone on grounds agrees to abide by the rules and decisions of the Barrel Committee*. Any act of discourtesy, disobedience, swearing, obscenity, arguing with officials, judges, spectators, any act of indecency, by owners, riders, managers, guests, parents or grooms, will cause disqualification and expulsion from grounds. A rider is responsible for anyone accompanying them that shows unsportsmanlike conduct or breaks any PBP rules. Rider can be disqualified from the show or future shows as determined by the Board, Barrel Committee* and members, and forfeits entry fees and points.

17. NOTE ALL RULES SUBJECT TO CHANGE AT THE DISCRETION OF THE BARREL COMMITTEE* OR PBP BOARD.

*Barrel Committee comprised of PBP officers, board members, Barrel Director or designated person(s) present at shows.

Membership in Palm Beach Posse, Inc. is a privilege, not a right. Behavior which is damaging to our Club or its membership will NOT be tolerated. Violation of any rules may subject a member to disqualification from PBP events, loss of points, suspension or expulsion from the Club.
